The Omaha Fire Department hopes the city council will vote to charge a fee for calls to help people who have fallen down.
The department said assisted living facilities and nursing homes have called up to 350 times a year for help with a resident who has fallen and needs help getting up. Omaha Fire and Rescue said each of these calls costs the city at least $1,000.
The fire department has asked the city council to approve a $400 fee for these non-emergency calls. The council is set to make a final vote on the proposal on Tuesday.
