A Lincoln Police officer suffered minor injuries while trying to restrain a Lincoln Southwest High School student.
Lincoln Police say just before noon on Thursday, an officer was called to Southwest High School for a report of a disturbance involving a juvenile. The officer contacted the juvenile at the rear of the school, but the teen fled up a hill and into some trees.
As the officer tried to talk to the student, the teen picked up a large branch and charged the officer. The officer ripped the branch away from the juvenile and physically restrained them. As the officer was placing the teen in handcuffs, the juvenile kicked the officer in the legs and the crotch.
Then when the officer placed the juvenile in a police cruiser, they began banging their head on the rear passenger window and the glass divider. The officer placed their hand behind the juvenile’s head to prevent injury to the juvenile, which resulted in redness and swelling to the officer’s knuckles because the teen continued banging their head back and forth against the divider and rear passenger window.
After consulting with Lincoln Public Schools, the officer decided that school sanctions were more appropriate than criminal charges at this time.
