Teen Makes Online Threat About 'Shooting Up' His School

A Lincoln teen is could face charges after making an online school shooting threat.

Lincoln Police say on Wednesday, a Lincoln East High School security officer was contacted by an FBI agent out of Omaha who was investigating a school shooting threat. The FBI had received a tip about a threat on Twitter that stated “IM GONNA SHOOT UP MY SCHOOL”. The Twitter profile belonged to someone in Lincoln and the profile picture was reviewed.

Initially, a former East High student was developed as a suspect solely based off the picture, which was of poor quality. That person was contacted and then ruled out as a suspect. During that time, the school conducted a Lock-Out in an abundance of precaution since the initial suspect was a former student.

After further investigation of the Twitter account, a seventeen year old boy in Lincoln was identified as the person responsible for the post. The teen and his father were contacted regarding the threat and it was determined that the boy is home-schooled. The teen told law enforcement that the tweet was a bad joke gone wrong.

The incident will be forwarded to the County Attorney to determine what further action will be taken, if any.
