A violent afternoon at the Siena-Francis homeless shelter near 16th and Nicholas ended with Omaha Police shooting and killing a man.
Police say three women were stabbed before officers shot the knife-wielding suspect. "No officers were injured in this incident," Deputy Chief Scott Gray says.
Shortly after police arrived on scene they called for a hostage negotiator as they believed the suspect was still inside the building. A witness and friend of the suspect told 6 News he saw the whole thing go down.
"He ended up pulling out a knife, cutting a couple women. Stabbed two ladies and ran inside and went to the door. He went to the back and into a room and took her hostage in the closet. He put a knife to her neck," he says.
The mother of the suspects unborn baby, Ceaira Oliver, was also on the scene. "I wish the cops would have handled it better...or have known he was schizophrenic," said Oliver.
Oliver says the man who stabbed the victims was off of his medications and was a current resident at the shelter.
