The death penalty will be sought against the man accused of murdering a 24 year old Lincoln woman late last year.
According to court documents, the death penalty will be sought in the case against Aubrey Trail, one of the two people accused of killing Sydney Loofe in November, 2017.
In court, Special Deputy Attorney of Saline County Sandra Allen stated that they will look to aggravating circumstances as a reason for death because Trail “has a substantial prior history of serious assaultive (sic) or terrorizing criminal activity,” and “the murder manifested exceptional depravity by ordinary standards of morality and intelligence.”
Court documents also state that authorities believe Trail did “purposely and with deliberate premeditated malice kill Sydney Loofe.” A probable cause affidavit states that Loofe's dismembered body was found in multiple garbage bags east of Clay Center on December 4th and 5th.
In security video from a Home Depot in Lincoln on November 15th, Aubrey Trail and Bailey Boswell are seen purchasing tools and supplies believed to be used in the dismemberment and disposal of Loofe's body. The court records indicate at that time, Loofe was still alive, and began her shift at Menards later that day.
A forensic pathologist determined Loofe's cause of death to be homicidal violence including strangulation, which Trail admits to. Trail acknowledged strangling Loofe to death with an extension cord with Boswell assisting in cleaning up the crime scene and disposing of Loofe’s body.
Trail is due in Saline District Court for an arraignment on Friday morning at 9:30 AM.
