The Omaha Fire Department now has a new tool to make it easier to extend rescue efforts to the dogs and cats they encounter when responding to a house fires and other emergencies.
24 FIDO Bags have been donated to the department by the Fetch Foundation and the Omaha Animal Medical Group. Every fire engine in the city will be equipped with one of the bags. Battalion Chief Scott Fitzpatrick says each one has special oxygen masks that are designed to specifically fit animals heads . "It has a portable water dish, a couple of different restraining devices that help comfort the animals it has a splint we could use for a fractured limb."
Fitzpatrick says once they determine there is no danger to people, they can use these kits to turn their attention to the animals. "It will help that family out on the worst day of their life by saving their pet."
