Severe Storms, Flash Flooding Possible Saturday

Hot temperatures across the metro area could help fuel severe storms this afternoon and tonight. Temps Saturday morning temperatures were already in the low 80s and will reach the lower 90s by the afternoon.

According to WOWT 6 winds will persist out of the south ahead of a frontal boundary that will move to the southeast. Ahead of it, storms will begin to fire off after 3 pm and ramp up going into the evening. Severe storms will be possible with damaging winds and large hail. An isolated tornado or two will be possible as well.

As storms work their way through and pump out measurable rain, flash flooding concerns will heighten across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.  A flash flood watch is in effect through Sunday morning.  The National Weather Service says 1-3 plus inches of rain could fall, which will exacerbate elevated stream and river levels with flooding possible along prone waterways.

Clearing conditions will take place by Sunday morning and we will see cooler highs in the mid 80s. Temperatures are set to warm back into the 90s by the start of the work-week and the 4th of July.
