Omaha Police To Hold Gun Amnesty Day

Omaha Police are teaming up with a church to give Omahans a chance to drop off unwanted and illegal firearms during a gun amnesty day on Saturday.

Guns can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Eagle’s Nest Worship Center, 5775 Sorensen Parkway. Sergeant Todd Kozelichki says the collection is anonymous and no questions will be asked of anyone who shows up.

"We're asking for any type of any type of unwanted firearms, illegal firearms, ammunition and explosive devices."   Kozelichki says during the past ten years they have collected nearly 700 guns and some of them have been illegal.

People won’t be paid for any firearms they turn in but Kozelichki says "citizens will have peace of mind that they won't fall into the wrong hands and used against someone."

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday citizens can drive up, drop off the guns, ammunition and explosives and drive away with no questions asked.
