No Bond For Man Accused Of Killing Omaha Mother

No bond for a man accused of killing an Omaha mother.

Thursday, a Douglas County judge ordered Marcus Wheeler to be held without bond. Wheeler, along with seventeen year old Daion Williams, is accused in the shooting death of 21 year old Kayviaun Nelson.

Nelson was gunned down in the parking lot of the Walmart near 99th and Blair High Road on April 18th. Investigators believe Wheeler and Williams got into a fight with a male friend who was with Nelson at a Dollar General store. Police said the pair then followed Nelson and her friend to the Walmart.

Prosecutors say Williams handed Wheeler a gun and he started shooting at Nelson's friend, but hit her instead. Nelson was shot multiple times while one of her two sons watched from the backseat of her SUV.

Wheeler is charged with First Degree Murder and Use of a Weapon.

Charles Nelson was on hand at the jail court to see the man investigators say is responsible for his daughter's death. Afterwards, outside of jail, he spent several minutes talking with the parents of Marcus Wheeler.

Charles Nelson told 6 News, “That's a difficult position to stand in, but with my relationship with God through Christ – that allows that to happen. I lay no harm or guilt to his family. This event that took place a week ago will forever have a rippling effect on his family as it has mine. Different. But it will forever change things."

Charles says he's taking comfort thinking about the past, such as when Saturday's used to be daddy-daughter days. He plans to be in court every step of the way to honor her. "As a parent, it's my duty to be here. She will never be forgotten."

Wheeler's preliminary hearing is set for May 22nd. Kayviaun Nelson's wake will be Sunday at Mt Zion Church. The funeral will be held on Monday at 11 a.m.
