A 90 year old man has died after being pulled from a Douglas County pond. The vehicle Dewey Anderson was riding in plunged into the water around 9 P.M. near 288th Street and West Center Road.
Anderson's daughter, 61 year old Joni Carveth, was visiting from California and had been driving the GMC Yukon that belonged to her brother. Carveth said she had been driving her father back to a west Omaha assisted living facility when she accidentally drove into the pond and couldn’t get her father out of the vehicle. She ran to the nearby home for help and the resident there called 911.
Waterloo rescue crews found Anderson floating in the water. He had managed to get out of the Yukon, possibly through the sun roof, but he was unresponsive.
Anderson was transported to the hospital for treatment but pronounced dead a short time later. The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating.
