CVS Employee Prevents Woman From Being Scammed

A CVS employee is being credited for stopping a 74-year-old Lincoln woman from being scammed. Police say the employee warned her that the gift card she was purchasing was likely a scam. 

The woman told police on April 8 a pop-up message on her screen indicated that her computer was infected. She called a phone number listed on the pop-up The scammer told the victim she needed to pay a $99 service fee to remove the virus and $149 to purchase a one year service plan. 

She was advised to purchase a Visa Stream gift card and call back with the card number. However, when she was purchasing the gift card, the CVS employee told the woman it was likely a scam and she did not make the purchase..
