This figures to be a busy weekend for metro area law enforcement agencies. With Creighton playing in the NCAA Tournament and St. Patrick's day falling on Saturday, there is the potential for a higher number of drunk drivers out on the road.
"There's obviously a chance that people may partake in alcoholic beverages whether it's at a bar, at home or a restaurant," LaVista Police Captain Bryan Waugh says
Waugh says the Sarpy County Multi-Agency DUI Task Force will have officers and deputies working on Friday and St. Patrick’s Day to make sure impaired drivers are taken off the streets before they can injure or kill someone. "Our ultimate goal is to make sure we don't have any serious injury, fatality car crashes as the result of a drunk driver."
He says St. Patrick's day is traditionally once of the most dangerous holiday's for impaired drivers. Officers from LaVista, Bellevue and Papillion along with Sarpy County Sheriff's deputies will have extra officers on the streets.
