Baseball Fans Will Be Safer At TD Ameritrade Park

In an effort to keep fans safe from being hit by foul balls, MECA has extended the backstop netting at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. The netting will now reach to the outer edge of either dugout, an additional 84 feet down each foul line.

The $40,000 purchase and installation were approved in a public MECA Board of Directors meeting on November 16, 2017. MECA capital reserve funds will cover all costs.

MECA elected to extend the backstop netting to enhance stadium safety and better protect spectators from foul or stray balls. Both this and the clear bag policy will be new safety measures in place at TD Ameritrade Park in 2018. Additionally, security personnel will begin “wanding” guests entering the stadium for all TD Ameritrade Park Omaha events.

The netting is 93 percent invisible.  The first baseball game of the year will be Creighton University’s home game on Friday, March 16, versus Wichita State.
