Charles Logan has had enough of seeing people beg for money on street corners around Omaha. Several months ago, after watching his own son panhandle, he made a sign telling panhandlers to "get a job."
"He was out here begging for money and I know that he's not homeless, and I know he's wasn't hungry. Ain't no different than him and these other guys out here. Get a job," Logan says.
Logan, who is retired from the military, says many of the panhandlers out on the street simply don't want to work. For those who are truly in need, Logan says there are options. "If you're hungry they've got the Salvation Army. If you need a place to live they've got the Open Door Mission.
In the months he's been on the streets protesting Logan says he has received honks of support from passing drivers and experienced abuse from panhandlers. When NewsRadio 1110 KFAB caught up with Monday afternoon at Saddle Creek and Cuming he had just gotten into a confrontation with one of them.
"He scratched my car a little bit ago and he threw a brick at me last week," Logan says. "He don't look like he's disabled to me. If he wants to fight then he can work. I'm not out here to fight nobody. I don't say nothing to them. Only thing my sign say if you want money go get a job."
