'American Idol' Contestant Says Katy Perry Kiss Made Him 'Uncomfortable'
A 19-year-old American Idol contestant who appeared in the season premiere on Sunday said in a new interview that a kiss he got from judge Katy Perry made him uncomfortable.
The kiss took place when another judge, Luke Bryan, referenced Perry's 2008 hit song, "I Kissed a Girl," as he asked contestant Benjamin Glaze during his audition, "Have you kissed a girl and liked it?" Glaze said he hadn't, explaining, "I have never been in a relationship and I can't kiss a girl without being in a relationship." Perry then motioned for him to come over and as Glaze went over he said, "One on the cheek?" and gave her a kiss on the cheek before Perry quickly kissed him on the mouth. Glaze told the New York Times, "I was a tad bit uncomfortable. I wanted to save it for my first relationship. I wanted it to be special."
He continued, "Would I have done it if she said, 'Would you kiss me?' No. I would have said no. . . . I was raised in a conservative family and I was uncomfortable immediately." However, he told the Times he doesn't view the kiss as sexual harassment, and actually was happy about the extra screen time, since he didn't advance to the next round in the competition.
