APPLE'S NEW SMART SPEAKER IS LEAVING WHITE RINGS ON FURNITURE
Some people who've gotten Apple's new HomePod smart speaker are complaining that the $350 device is leaving rings on their furniture. Reviewers on a couple of sites have said that the HomePods leave behind a semi-permanent white ring on some wooden tables and countertops, but seemingly only on wooden surfaces treated with oil.
Apple confirmed that it can happen, saying it's caused by oils diffusing between the HomePod's silicon base and the surface of an oil- or wax-based wood finished surface. Apple said the marks should fade over time, and that cleaning the surface by oiling it, or if that doesn't work, refinishing it, should solve the problem.
