Elon Musk is Selling Flamethrowers

Elon Musk's companies are known for forward-looking, big-scale projects like electric cars and rockets, but he's surprised people with the latest product he's pitching -- a flamethrower. Musk's Boring Company was established for the purpose of creating underground tunnels for transportation under congested cities. Typical Musk big idea. But it's also doing some silly side projects.

Last year, it sold 50,000 Boring Company hats for $20 each, and at the time, Musk tweeted, "After 50K hats, we will start selling The Boring Company flamethrower."

Most people thought he was joking, but apparently not, because the company began selling flamethrowers this past weekend for $500 apiece. Musk sent out lighthearted messages about it, posting video of himself on Instagram playing with a flamethrower and tweeting things like, "When the zombie apocalypse happens, you'll be glad you bought a flamethrower. Works against the hordes of the undead or your money back."

As of yesterday, the company had already sold 10,000 of them. If you're wondering if owning a flamethrower is legal, Musk tweeted that the federal government says that as long the flame's length is under 10 feet, they're allowed.

Musk added: "Our design is max fun for least danger. I'd be way more scared of a steak knife."
