(Carter Lake, IA) -- There's an update on a western Iowa homicide investigation.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says the State Medical Examiner’s Office has positively identified the deceased male found in a Carter Lake hotel room earlier this week as 63-year-old Kenneth Bruce Gauff of Omaha.
The manner of death has been ruled a homicide.
Investigators say 36-year-old Joseph Bertolino of Jacksonville, Florida is now charged with First Degree Murder.
Bertolino, who was being held in Lincoln, Nebraska for Attempted First Degree Assault on a Lincoln Police Officer this week, appeared in court Friday and waived extradition.
He will be transported to Pottawattamie County, Iowa to face the murder charge.
