"Pee-Wee" is Iowa State Fair's Big Boar

(Des Moines, IA) -- Pee-Wee, a 6-year-old Hereford of Marv Rietema and Owen Sandbulte of Sioux Center, won first place in the Big Boar Contest judged Thursday, August 11, at the 2022 Iowa State Fair, tipping the scales at 1300 pounds. Purdy Boy, the 6-year-old Chester cross breed shown by the Purdy Boy Partnership of Pleasant Hill, earned second place, weighing in at 1156 pounds.

This year's winner of the Super Bull contest is Albert, a 3,042-pound Angus owned by Randy Dreher of Audubon. Spear Farms Angus of Indianola claimed second place with their 2,738-pound Angus bull, Friction, and Jerry Bedwell of New Virginia took third place with "Mean Gene," a 2,728-pound Charolais bull.

A 6-year-old Suffolk ram shown by Fisher Farms of Mercer, Missouri is this year's winner of the Big Ram contest. The ram tipped the scales at 456 ½ pounds. Second place was won by the 6-year old Suffolk ram shown by Abby Willson of Shell Rock. Her entry weighed in at 428 pounds.

Albert, as well as the Big Boar and Big Ram, will be on display at the Iowa State Fair in the Cattle, Swine and Sheep Barns, respectively, through August 21.
