Omaha fugitive found in Nicaragua returned to the United States

(Omaha, NE) -- The number one fugitive on the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Most Wanted List is back in the United States after being apprehended in Nicaragua.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says on Friday, investigators were advised that 29 year old Adam Hawhee is in custody in Miami, Florida. Hawhee is wanted out of Douglas County on two counts of Child Enticement and 26 counts of Possession of Child Pornography.

In December of 2020, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received the two felony warrants for Hawhee. DCSO says initial attempts to locate Hawhee in the Omaha area were unsuccessful. The Sheriff's Office says during the investigation, it was determined that Hawhee may have fled the state and possibly the country.

With assistance from the United States Marshals Service, DCSO determined that Hawhee had fled the United States to Nicaragua. Last month, Hawhee was taken into custody by Nicaraguan authorities on immigration violations and was deported back to the United States where he was taken into custody on his outstanding Douglas County warrants.

He will be returning to Nebraska upon the completion of the extradition process in Florida.
