Gov. Reynolds asks Congress for more COVID relief money

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa's governor is calling on Congress to pass another round of COVID economic stimulus money.

"They need to step up, they need to do their job. They need to come together and get it figured out, and get relief to the states--for our small businesses and Iowans that are suffering from COVID-19 through no fault of their own" says Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

She says the state is considering more stop-gap small business funding with remaining federal CARES Act money.

"Much like we did with the small business relief that we got out the door very, very quickly through the Iowa Economic Development Authority. But, that was bridge financing, and we said that. There was anticipation that the federal government would pass additional funding that would help them in a more permanent manner" Reynolds says.

She says the state has until the end of the month to disperse it's share of CARES Act money.

Reynolds comments come as a bipartisan group of U.S. senators is putting a new coronavirus relief package on the table.

The $908 billion measure includes more funding for the Paycheck Protection Program.
