Man charged in Scurlock shooting death takes his own life

OMAHA, Nebraska -- The man facing a number of charges--including manslaughter--in the Omaha shooting death of James Scurlock is dead.

Jake Gardner's attorney says the 38-year-old took his own life.

A warrant for Gardner’s arrest was issued Friday after a grand jury indicted him for manslaughter and other charges related to the death of James Scurlock.

Gardner was in Oregon. He was supposed to turn himself in today.

Gardner also faced charges of attempted first-degree assault, threats and using a weapon while committing a felony.

Scurlock was shot to death May 30th in the Old Market during civil unrest.
