Papillion City Councilman Cited For Child Abuse

PAPILLION, Nebraska - A Papillion City Councilman was cited last week by the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office for negligent child abuse - no serious injury. 6 News report sources tell them that 45 year old Jason Gaines was caring for a 5 year old boy. That boy says he had been grabbed and had finger marks on his side and arm.

Papillion Police were called and they contacted the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office to handle the investigation due to conflict of interest. In his duties as a council member, Gaines cast a vote on issues connected to the police department.

Record show that in 2005, Gaines pleaded guilty to third degree domestic assault and was sentenced to 18 months of probation.

Papillion City officials tell 6 News they are aware of the charge but will not comment.

Gaines was elected to the council first in 2012 and again in 2016. His term expires next year.
