Elderly Man Rescued After Car Plunges Into Pond

An elderly man is in critical condition after the vehicle he was riding in plunged into a pond around 9 P.M. Saturday off of West Center Road near the Platte River.

The man’s daughter, visiting from California, had been driving the GMC Yukon that belonged to her brother.  She told authorities she had been driving her father back to a West Omaha assisted living facility when she accidentally drove into the pond and couldn’t get her 90-year-old father out of the vehicle.

She ran to the nearby home for help and the resident there called 911.  Waterloo rescue crews found the man floating in the water. He had managed to get out of the Yukon, possibly through the sun roof, but he was unresponsive.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.  The names of those involved were not immediately released.
