Omaha Man Battling Cancer Hits Million Dollar Lotto Jackpot

One deserving Omaha man got the surprise of his life when he went to scan his Nebraska Lottery Mega Millions ticket this week. Much to his surprise, he won the $1 million jackpot.

Cashier Lisa Bailey says the winner, Tim Manion, didn't believe them when they told him he won. "We were like jumping up and down, screaming, we were so excited. He didn't believe us at all, and he literally had to come around to look at the screen."

Bailey says that the jackpot couldn't have gone to a more deserving person. "He needed it. He was about to lose his house. He fought cancer, he was really sick for a long time."

The store's General Manager Stephanie Riewe was also on hand when Manion brought his ticket in, and says it was like they all had just won. "It was a blast. I mean we were hooting and hollering and everybody was like, 'What's going on?' and we were like, 'He just won a million dollars!' So, it was pretty exciting."

As the store that sold the million dollar ticket, Riewe's Kum & Go location will receive a $10,000 'High Seller's Bonus' from the Nebraska Lottery. Riewe says she isn't sure what they will do with the money just yet, but hopes to spread the wealth. "I would probably share a little bit with my associates and then maybe do some fun stuff around the store. I don't know. This is all new to us."
