Midtown Ice Skating Rink To Open Saturday

Excitement is growing as a new ice skating rink is set to open in midtown Saturday afternoon.

The 60'x80' all-weather synthetic ice rink was originally set to open last week on the roof of a Midtown Crossing business. However, the overwhelming demand led to questions of safety regarding the rooftop rink.

The rink has now been built at 34th and Farnam, in between the Midtown Crossing and Blackstone districts.  Midtown Crossing spokesperson Molly Skold says the new rink will offer a fun winter activity for everyone.

"We've heard a lot from young professionals taking a date out.  But it's also great for families, it's great for empty nesters," Skold says.

The rink, which can operate regardless of temperatures, will open Saturday afternoon at 1:00 and there will be a number of activities associated with the grand opening, including an appearance from Santa from 2-5.

The Rink on Farnam will remain open through February 25. (Thursday-Friday 4-10 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 1-10 p.m.)

The $5 admission includes skate rental and all proceeds will go to the Salvation Army.
