Nebraska Appleseed Executive Director Rebecca Gould issued the following statement in response to Governor Ricketts’ State of the State address delivered Tuesday morning.
“We are pleased the Governor’s budget upholds the will and priorities of the people of Nebraska by fully implementing Initiative 427, which expanded health care coverage to 90,000 Nebraskans,” Gould said. “This will improve the health of our people, bring Nebraska tax dollars back to our state, and create jobs across our communities. However, we will be watching closely for details of the budget proposal to ensure implementing Medicaid expansion does not come at the expense of other essential services that Nebraska families depend upon to meet their basic needs.”
“Our state budget should always reflect our values and prioritize the health and well-being of Nebraskans, helping to build strong communities where everyone can thrive. We encourage the Legislature to create a budget that invests in healthy communities, strengthens our child welfare system, makes needed reforms to our corrections system, and protects work support programs that allow Nebraska’s hard-working families the opportunity to get ahead.”
