Today is National Farmers Day, a time to remember and thank those who grow and produce the food that is on your table every day.
Farming is one of the world's oldest professions dating back 12,000 years. In Nebraska we generally think of farmers growing corn, soybeans and wheat but this is a time to also thank those who grow the rice, fruit, vegetables, nuts and other foods we enjoy year round.
Farming is often a thankless job but one all Americans should be thankful for every day. They are dedicated, hard workers who deserve a thank you. We would also like to add have a safe and bountiful harvest.
National Farmers Day was established in the 1800's when it was first known as Old Farmers Day.
