Three hog barns turned to the ground in Emmet County, Iowa. The fire was reported around 1:30 a.m. southeast of Dolliver. By the time firefighters arrived one of the bars was engulfed in flames.
Six fire departments battled the fire for more than six hours.
Radio Iowa reports that Gruver Assistant Fire Chief Wes Baddeley says the damage is so extensive that a cause could not be determined.
About 2,500 sows and 4,000 piglets were killed. The estimated dollar loss is about $10 million.
