Food & Ag Justice Rally Saturday In Iowa

This Saturday, members of Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement  will show up outside of the Corporate Ag Summit to paint a contrasting vision of agriculture that works for farmers, workers, eaters and the environment. The Food and Ag Justice Rally will begin at 7:45 AM outside of the Iowa Events Center.

Who: Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement

What: Food and Ag Justice Rally

When: Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 7:45 AM

Where: Iowa Events Center, 730 3rd St, Des Moines

Why: Lift up a vision for a just and sustainable food and ag system

The second Corporate Ag Summit, hosted by political kingmaker Bruce Rastetter, will promote a food and agriculture system that destroys independent family farms, degrades our soil and water, and undermines our democracy. With guests that include U.S. Secretary of Ag Sonny Perdue, Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, Governor Kim Reynolds and gubernatorial Candidate Ron Corbett, Rastetter will use his summit as an opportunity to manipulate the political process to ensure that corporate profit and power continue to grow. Iowa CCI members will show that Rastetter’s vision does not reflect the beliefs and values of family farmers and everyday Iowans.

Our People and Planet First Vision of Agriculture

  • Restores independent family farms
  • Improves soil health, water quality, and the climate
  • Creates opportunities for women, young people, POC, LGBTQ, and immigrants
  • Gives all food workers a fair and living wage
  • Encourages local production that boosts economic vitality
  • Restores biodiversity
  • Advances local control of the food system
  • Ends the political and economic power of corporations that undermine our democracy
  • Stops our dependency on fossil fuels and chemical fertilizers
