Ground Broken On New Poultry Plant Near Fremont

Governor Pete Ricketts and other dignitaries and local leaders grabbed shovels to help break ground on the new Lincoln Premium Poultry facility outside of Fremont.  This is Costco's first poultry processing facility combined with hatchery and feed mill.  The $300-million project is expected to open in April of 2019 and bring about 800 new jobs to the area.

“This is a monumental day for Costco, Fremont, and the State of Nebraska,” said Governor Pete Ricketts. “Costco has a reputation for being a great corporate citizen, and today’s groundbreaking highlights what’s to come: good paying jobs, more opportunity for our local farmers, and the all-important expansion of value-added agriculture in our state.”

The facility is expected to process up to 2 million chickens every week that will be sold in Costco store locations.

Statistics show that one in four jobs in Nebraska is related to agriculture.  That includes farming, livestock production to packing houses and food production.
