(Nebraska) -- The University of Nebraska is neck-and-neck with the University of Wisconsin in a Big Ten blood drive competition.

The We Give Blood Challenge competition encourages students, alumni, and members of the community to represent their school and donate blood to those in need.

The school that donates the most blood gets $1-million-dollars for student health initiatives.

Nebraska won last year. Wisconsin is currently in the lead this year with almost 14-thousand donors, with Nebraska trailing behind by just a few hundred.

The challenge will continue through Friday, December 5.

More information about donating and the leaderboard is available on the Big Ten website here.

Those interested in donating for Nebraska can also text "DONATE" to 222688 (ABBOTT).
