(Des Moines, IA) -- A new report shows the state of Iowa has the worst bridges in the country.

The Federal Highway Administration says almost 20 percent of Iowa's bridges are classified as structurally deficient, meaning at least one key element of the bridge is in poor or worse condition.

Even though that's tops in the country, the number of structurally deficient bridges in Iowa is actually down by 100 since 2016.

99.5% of them are not on the Interstate Highway System.
