Woman pleads guilty to fatal Sarpy County drunk driving crash

A 25 year old woman faces up to 24 years in prison after pleading guilty to a number of charges in connection to a fatal drunk driving crash.

The Sarpy County Attorney's Office says on Friday, Kenisha Prentice appeared in front of a Sarpy County District Court Judge to plead guilty to charges related to the February 2020 crash including: DUI – Motor Vehicle Homicide, DUI Causing Serious Bodily Injury, DUI 2nd Offense and Following Too Closely.

Prosecutors says Prentice was charged following the February 9th crash on westbound Interstate 80 near the Highway 370 on ramp. Investigators say shortly after 8:00 that night, Prentice crashed into a stalled vehicle in a right lane of the interstate.

The driver and passenger in the stalled vehicle, 67 year old Nabil Shokai and 74 year old Kalul Bor, suffered critical injuries in the crash. Shokai died from his injuries. Bor survived, but suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Prentice’s blood alcohol content was .17, over twice the legal limit, and she admitted to law enforcement that she and her passengers had come from a party where they had been drinking. Prosecutors say an eyewitness at the scene saw that the stalled vehicle had emergency flashers activated at the time of the crash, which was confirmed by security footage obtained from the Gretna Walmart.

Prentice will be sentenced February 8th and faces up to 24 years imprisonment between the four counts.
