The Papio City Council Votes On A Mask Mandate

A mask ordinance is now in effect in Papillion, with the city council voting seven-to-one Thursday night in favor of the mandate.

The ordinance would be lifted if fewer than 15 percent of Nebraska hospital beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients.

Council member Lou Ann Kluch said, "This isn’t about ourselves, it’s about doing what we can to help everybody in our communities. That’s where my vote had to come down to as 'am I thinking about myself or am I thinking about others?'”

Council member Steve Sunde said, “I know this is going to pass 7 to 1, and to me, that doesn’t feel like home, and that doesn’t give me a small town feel. That feels like oppressive overreach of government; to me it feels like tyranny and it feels like subjugation, that’s what it feels like to me;”
