Omaha City Council Scheduled To Vote On Public Face Mask Ordinance

As an emergency proposal, the mask ordinance will need six of seven votes to pass and will expire September 15th unless the council extends it.

The proposal would require face coverings to be worn by anyone five years of age and older in any indoor public location including private businesses, clubs, religious centers, educational facilities, and daycares.

Masks would not be required for those who can maintain at least six feet of distance from anyone who is not a member of their household.

There is an exemption for those who have a medical or mental health condition or disability that makes wearing a mask unreasonable.

The fine for violating the face mask ordinance would be a misdemeanor offense possibly subject to a $25 fine, down from an initial proposal of $100.

Each violation may be considered a separate offense, according to documents.
