City Of Bellevue Seeks Opinions On A Mask Mandate

Bellevue Mayor Rusty Hike says he’s curious about possible legal ramifications of a mask mandate in his city, and is gauging citizen support if a mandate became necessary.

Hike has been seeking opinions on Facebook.

He tells 6 News the feedback is 60/40 in favor of requiring masks.

But, he is not sure Bellevue even needs a mandate right now as the Covid-19 curve has recently flattened there.

“I don’t think it needs it right now just because we’re trending down,” he said.

“Those numbers are coming down a little bit so things are looking good this week, but we all know that can change.”

The Bellevue City Council hasn’t made any mask proposal, and Hike says it couldn’t be enforced unless the city council votes on it.

“Our legal department is searching out any kind of legal issues that might take place, so we just don’t want to be caught unprepared if we need to do it,” the Mayor said.
