Omaha Police announce Firework and Gun Amnesty Day

The Omaha Police Department is partnering with the Omaha Fire Department for Firework and Gun Amnesty Day.

OPD says on Saturday July 11th, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. they'll collect fireworks, illegal and/or unwanted firearms and ammunition in order to get those items off the street. Police says the items can be dropped off with no questions asked.

Drop-off locations will be at Seymour Smith Park, 72nd and Harrison and Omaha Fire Station 43, 5505 North 103rd St.

Police say it is helpful if guns come to them unloaded, but it is not necessary. If you are unable to unload the gun or are unsure if it is loaded, you'll have to tell staff before you remove it from your vehicle.
