Employee at Douglas County Youth Facility Tests Positive for COVID-19

The Douglas County Youth Center says one of their employees has tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus.

County officials say prior to the start of the employee’s overnight shift on May 17th, the employee’s temperature check was normal. The following day, the employee was not feeling well and called in sick.

The employee did not have contact with any of the youth at the Youth Center and all employees who had close contact with this employee are in self-isolation at home. Families of all youth who were at the Youth Center at the time were also contacted.

“The health and safety of our kids and staff at the Douglas County Youth Center is our utmost concern,” said Brad Alexander, superintendent of the Douglas County Youth Center. “We are thankful our employee notified us immediately upon becoming symptomatic.”

The Douglas County Youth Center began screening all employees for COVID-19 related symptoms, including temperature checks, on March 17th. The Douglas County Youth Center has 142 employees. As of today, there are 77 youth at the Youth Center.
