Nebraska Medicine/UNMC Moves One Coronavirus Patient Out Of Biocontainment

OMAHA, Nebraska - UNMC/Nebraska Medicine continues to monitor 13 people for coronavirus. All were evacuated from the Diamond Princess cruise ship.

One person who was being treated in the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit has been transferred to the National Quarantine Unit. There are currently eleven people in that unit and two in the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit.

Eleven people have tested positive for COVID-19 and two remain negative. The two that tested negative could leave quarantine on March 2nd.

On Monday, UNMC/Nebraska Medicine launched an internal virtual town hall so those evacuated can communicate with each other and share thoughts about this operation. Staff continues to attend the personal needs of the patients and there are behavioral health experts on location to assist.

Nationally, there are 35 cases of COVID-19 nationwide. Internationally, the largest spikes are seen in South Korea and Italy. In Italy, public events are being canceled to limit the spread of the virus.
