Dozens of Americans From China Will Arrive In Omaha Friday For Quarantine

Health officials are trying to re-assure the public as dozens of Americans from China's Coronavirus epicenter is set to arrive in Nebraska on Friday.

Dr. Mark Rupp is an infectious disease specialist at UNMC and says from the group's arrival at Eppley Airfield in Omaha to the planned two week quarantine at Camp Ashland, and stresses that the individuals that are flying in won't have any contact with other people.

Rupp also emphasizes that none of the Americans headed here have any signs of the Coronavirus. They have been checked out several times a day as a precautionary measure.

Governor Pete Ricketts at a media briefing on Thursday urged Nebraskans to only rely on trusted news sources for information and expressed confidence that the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Nebraska Medicine have the ability to deal with the situation, just as they were able to treat Ebola virus patients in 2014.

The plane will arrive in Omaha by the end of the day Friday. The Douglas County Health Department has opened a helpline to answer the public's questions about Coronavirus. It's open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the number is 402-444-3400.
