ISU study: national, local TV news top sources for candidate information

AMES, Iowa -- A new Iowa State University study says Iowa Caucus-goers are leaning on a traditional method for getting information on 2020 presidential candidates.

"National network news tends to be good journalism, and I think that's a good thing to see. It's not social media that's number one, or cable news" says Catt Center for Women and Politics researcher Kelly Winfrey.

She says the ISU study shows people are less likely in 2020 than they were in 2016 to use the internet and social media as a source of information.

"The internet's important, but perhaps after all of the talk of 'fake news'--that increased awareness, maybe caucus-goers are leaning on more trusted, traditional sources to get their information" Winfrey says.

She also says people in her study say the use candidate advertising and local T-V news as some of the top ways to get information on candidates.
