Burning Love Letters Sparks Lincoln Apartment Fire

Lincoln Police say a woman who burned love letters from an ex-lover set her apartment on fire Monday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to 46th and Meredith around 4:30 p.m. The 19 year old woman told police she was in her bedroom trying to burn the letters.

Officer Angela Sands says the woman didn't think the letters were starting on fire the way she thought and she left them on the carpet before going to another room to take a nap.

When she woke up the smoke detector was sounding. Damage from the fire is estimated at $4,000. The woman was cited for negligent burning.
