Body Of Saunders County Teacher Found

The body of a 52 year old Saunders County woman has been found after two days of sweeping air and ground searches. The sheriff's department says the body of missing elementary school teacher Tammy Sukstorf was found Sunday evening.

Sukstorf, from rural Cedar Bluffs, was last seen on July 5th at approximately 10:30 p.m. Her vehicle was found near County Roads 19 and S a few miles from her home and her personal belongings, including her cell phone, were inside. The car was towed to the Sheriff's Office.

Authorities searched the area Saturday to no avail then resumed the search on Sunday. The Nebraska State Patrol had its helicopter up and drones were used to survey the area. Eventually, dogs were able to locate her body.

Before her body was found, volunteers appeared by the carload, combing through corn, hoping to find any sign of Tammy. Friends and family held one another as people rode ATVs and walked through fields.

A friend of the missing woman told 6 News that Tammy would never just go missing like this. She loved the kids she taught and her family too much.

The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information on the situation to contact them at 402 443-1000 or call Crime Stoppers at 402 443-8181 to stay anonymous.

An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death.
