Driver Of Stolen Car Dead After Shots Fired During Council Bluffs Chase

One person is dead after shots were fired during a car chase in Council Bluffs Monday evening. Police say three cars were involved in a high-speed chase that began at 9th and South Main Street around 5:20 p.m.

Police say the whole ordeal began Monday morning in Omaha when a black Nissan was stolen. Friends of the car's owner saw it in Council Bluffs and began chasing it. During that chase shots were fired and the black Nissan crashed near 5th and South Main in the downtown area.

"It was like a demolition derby going on between the blue car and the black Nissan and all of a sudden somebody started shooting," a witness told 6 News.

Officers confirmed it was the person in the black Nissan that was shot and transported to a hospital where he later died. "I saw the ambulance came and took him away. It seemed like he was dead," the witness said.

The witness told 6 News was says the whole ordeal was frightening. "My kids go to school right here in town and it's pretty scary, especially with Bayliss Park right here and all the kids that hang out in this area."
