HOTEL MUMBAI REVIEW – OMAHA FILM FESTIVAL

Starring Dev Patel and Armie Hammer

Directed By: Anthony Maras (Feature Film Debut)

Rated: R

Runtime: 2 hours 5 minutes

Let’s be honest with each other. You hear ‘Omaha Film Festival’ and you think about black and white, artsy, low talking films. It’s ok. That stigma is real. However, Hotel Mumbai, is a shoot em up film about a terror attack from 2008.

Dev Patel stars as a hotel employee who does everything in his power to protect his guests from the active shooter situation. Armie Hammer co-stars as an American businessman who is visiting with his Indian wife and their newborn child. The couple go to dinner on the first floor while a nanny watches over the newborn in a top floor suite.Hammer is tasked with getting to the baby and protecting his family.

This movie really surprised me because it does break that stereotypical mold of a Film Festival film. It’s violent. It’s tense.I went in with a handful of fingernails, I no longer have those nails.I chewed em off!Having no previous knowledge of the attack, it was surprising to me how it all played out.

You can see Hotel Mumbai in theaters on March 29th.

On a scale of 'See It/Stream It/Skip It', I'm voting stream it. A lot more going on than your "average" action movie.

If you liked Patriots Day, Air Force One, or The Hurt Locker you might enjoy Hotel Mumbai
