One of the most anticipated movies of 2019 dropped its first trailer during The Oscars Sunday night. The Irishman is the story of a mob hitman who gets involved in the slaying of Jimmy Hoffa. Al Pacino plays Jimmy Hoffa. Robert DeNiro plays Frank Sheeran the titular "Irishman" who claims to have killed Hoffa. Based on the book, "I Heard You Paint Houses" the cast is rounded out by Joe Pesci, Ray Romano, and Harvey Keitel.
This marks the first time since 1995's "Heat" (one of the greatest movies of all-time) that DeNiro and Pacino will be in the same movie. Yes, I'm willfully ignoring 2008's dreadful 'Righteous Kill'. Both actors were in The Godfather Part II, but did not share a scene.
The Irishman marks Netflix's latest (and greatest) attempt to win an Oscar. They've won some awards for smaller movies, but they'll do anything to get a Best Picture winner. The studio's most recent effort, Roma, won Best Director, Best Foreign Film, and Best Cinematography. Nothing to sneeze at, but it still isn't Best Picture.
The Irishman hits theaters (and Netflix) this fall.
