Unadilla Bill Predicts An Early Spring

Residents and visitors to Unadilla gathered early this morning as Bill, the city's mascot ventured outside to predict the future forecast. Bill did not see his shadow and that means an early spring is on the way.

Bill, a taxidermy groundhog, has been a tradition in the Otoe County town since the 1980's. There are many events planned at the Groundhog Day Capitol of Nebraska throughout the day.

Bill's famous cousin, Punxsutawney Phil predicted the same forecast. Thousands gathered at Gobblers Knob to see Phil exit his burrow.

The announcer said, "Here is my forecast. Faithful followers, there is no shadow of me. A beautiful spring it shall be."

This is the 133rd Groundhog Day event there and only the 19th time that Phil has predicted an early spring.
