Capital City Cop Resigns After Buying Alcohol For Underage Girlfriend

A Capital City police officer has resigned after being cited for providing alcohol to his underage girlfriend.

In a statement from Lincoln Police on Friday, officials stated that on Tuesday four-year veteran Scott Bierle resigned from the department following an internal investigation.

On December 21st, 2018, Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister requested that Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner conduct a criminal investigation concerning an incident in which Bierle allegedly provided alcohol to his nineteen year old girlfriend, Mercedees Smith.

On January 8th, 2019, sheriff's investigators cited Bierle for Procuring Alcohol to a Minor and cited Smith for Minor in Possession of Alcohol. Immediately following the issuance of these citations, Chief Bliemeister initiated an internal investigation.

The police department's internal investigation concluded on January 28th, 2019 and Bierle resigned the next day.

The statement went on to read:

The Lincoln Police Department works rigorously to build trust with the people of Lincoln. When we become aware that an LPD employee may have committed a policy or law violation, we thoroughly investigate the incident, including referring the criminal investigation to an outside law enforcement agency, if necessary. The actions of this employee are in contrast to LPD’s mission and goals. We do not tolerate such conduct, and this incident
