Best Scary Movies To Stream

It's nearly Halloween, and that means it's time to get list of scary movies in order.  What are you going to watch leading up to the big day?  There's SO many options, you can be hindered by the paradox of choice.  Allow me to break down the best options on the big three streaming services.  Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu.

Shall we begin...?

NETFLIX - BEST CHOICE: THE CONJURING (2013)

What may be the best horror movie in the last five years gets the top spot for Netflix users.  A moody, haunted house, exorcism type story is low on violence and high on things that go bump in the night.  A team of paranormal investigators try to extricate an entity from a local farmhouse.  This movie is all about tension.  It takes its time in building characters and scenarios, paying everything off in the final act.  The movie spawned the also good The Conjuring 2, The Nun (terrible), and Annabelle series to create "The Conjuring Universe" which is basically the Marvel movies, but in the horror genre.

HONORABLE MENTION: THE SHINING, CHILDREN OF THE CORN

AMAZON INSTANT VIDEO - BEST CHOICE: NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD 50TH ANNIVERSARY (1968)

The original zombie classic has been restored in its 50th year of existence and you can watch it if you're an Amazon Prime member.  George A. Romero's iconic black-and-white tale of a town overrun by something is as good today as ever.  Another movie that's low on violence (by today's standards, in 1968 it was thought to be QUITE gory) and high on setting a mood.  This is required viewing for any horror aficionado and movie buff in general.

HONORABLE MENTION: CARRIE, CHILD'S PLAY, AND JAWS

HULU - BEST CHOICE: THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 (1986)

Maybe not the most obvious choice, but I think it's an underrated classic in its own right.  Sure, it isn't as good as the masterpiece original.  But this movie does a lot of things really well.  Dennis Hopper stars as a sheriff on the hunt for the Leatherface clan after they terrorize a radio DJ.  It has, in my opinion, the single greatest jump scare in horror history.  For that reason, I have made it Hulu's best choice.  But Hulu might have the deepest roster of scary movie to choose from.

HONORABLE MENTION: HALLOWEEN H20, HELLRAISER, AND THE FLY

Happy Halloween!
